Hello bookwyrms and everyone!
Anna, the blogger behind The Scones and Tomes Society is dropping by to chat about books, blogging and of course, scones. 😉
What is Novel Newcomers?
Novel Newcomers is a feature based off features spotlighting debut authors, only with book bloggers! It all began in 2016 with Nori from ReadWriteLove28, started in 2017 but the feature took a back burner later that year and remained so in 2018.
This year, however, Novel Newcomers is back! Clo from Book Dragons and I will be featuring book bloggers who started in 2017 OR 2018 all throughout the year, so brace yourselves and let’s get started!
Lisa from Lili Star Reads lists 5 Ways for Blogging in a Busy World.
Outside of blogging and reading, what other interests do you have?
I am an avid Youtube and TV show binger. It’s actually a huge distraction from my reading! I also really enjoy window-shopping, writing, and playing Pokemon Go with my husband and friends. I also have a weird obsession with organization so you can always find me making a spreadsheet, writing in my planner, or straightening up the cabinets in my apartment!
What is your most unusual accomplishment?
I think my most unusual accomplishment is that I was the only Library Science student in my high school to get 100% every semester I took it between sophomore year and my senior year. I’m honestly not sure how I was the only one. I think also the fact that I got an A on a paper where I basically called Henry the VIII one of the worst people in history was also just very strange since it wasn’t an opinion piece.
Other than the ones mentioned in your About Me, what is your favorite food?
Outside of bagels, pizza, and strawberries, my favorite food is probably cheesecake or chantilly cake from Whole Foods. I don’t care what kind it is – if there is cheesecake/chantilly cake I will devour it. I am also very, very fond of french toast.
The Scones & Tomes Society is inspired by a book. What are your top three favorite scones?
My top 3 favorite scones are:
- White Chocolate Raspberry Scones
- Pumpkin Cheesecake Scones from Starbucks
- Cranberry Orange Scones
April Fool’s Day just passed recently! What 3 pranks would you like to see in a book one day?
Oh gosh, I’m terrible at pranks! I LOVE gender reveals that actually end up being that a couple adopted a puppy or a kitten so I feel like that would be a great one and not as terrible as the joking about being pregnant. Maybe the invisible driver one either from the perspective of the person doing the prank or even from the recipient’s point of view. A prank where the main character has an iPod or a phone hidden somewhere in their room that starts going off at random moments with different songs. Like at 4 am on a Wednesday it plays Rebecca Black’s “Friday” and every Friday that the main character doesn’t get paid it plays N’SYNC’s “Just Got Paid” and they slowly descend into madness until the songs just become the soundtrack of their lives.
The Easter Bunny drops you a basket of 5 unknown items. The only thing you know is they’re not books. What do you hope they will be?
Notebooks don’t count as books, right? I am hoping that 1 is a new reading journal, preferably one of the new 2019-2020 Recollections planners from Michaels, a new bookcase, a canister of chai to sip while I’m reading, soft fuzzy bunny socks to keep my feetsies warm, and a gift card to Tattered Cover/Amazon/B&N to share with some of my bookish friends~
You mentioned in your About Me that you’re a librarian surrounded by books. What 3 books are your go-to recommendations?
I work with a lot of kids asking for recommendations or their parents looking for more advanced books for their kid who is in-between reading levels so I tend to recommend a LOT of Rick Riordan and Erin Hunter since their books have stayed with me since I was a kid myself.
I also love thrusting The Queens of Renthia series on reluctant fantasy readers and Fruits Basket or Full Metal Alchemist for those looking for manga series to binge!
Summer is slowly approaching upon us, which means more book releases! Name your top 5 most anticipated releases this summer.
There are so many great books coming out this summer but I think if I had to narrow it down to 5, I would probably pick:
- We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal (May 14)
- Gumiho by Kat Cho (June 25)
- Vow of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson (August 6)
- Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson (June)
- Soul of the Sword by Julie Kagawa (June)
