Discussion: What Do YOU Hope to See in Divergent?

Posted March 14, 2014 by Sophia

Divergent comes out in exactly 7 days. Many of us are probably hoping that the movie won’t be screwed by Hollywood. Or as unscrewed as it can possibly be. Taking Uriah out is just one straw. :p

It’s never wrong to have hope. – Lex (Rewrite Redemption)

(for the other stuff)

During the past month, I asked on Goodreads and Twitter (though I basically got ignored on that) what you would like to see in the Divergent movie and a handful of suggestions were picked. THERE WILL BE SPOILERS FROM THE BOOK. LITERALLY. This post is sprinkled with them.

Dauntless Cake – Nothing makes it better than chocolate. And probably the best thing in the entire series. It’s one of the things I missed in Allegiant. 🙁

Four: Well, I would only go if there was cake.

Even Four agrees. :p

The Muffin Scene – We all know full well Uriah isn’t going to be making an appearance – NOOO – in Divergent so chances of this ever happening to see is well… zilch. Would anyone like a muffin though?

Tris: Why are you shooting a muffin off Marlene’s head?
Uriah: She bet me I couldn’t aim well enough to hit a small object from one hundred feet. I bet her she didn’t have the guts to stand there as I tried. It works out well, really.

Zip-lining! – I literally drew this on my poster for Biology not too long ago. Then again, it DID help wonders… sort of.

I feel like I am without substance, without weight. -Tris

When Tris first finds out she’s Divergent.

Tori: No. This is different. I don’t mean you shouldn’t share them now; I mean you should never share them with anyone, ever, no matter what happens. Divergence is extremely dangerous. You understand?

I think we’ve made a mistake. We’ve all started to put down the virtues of the other factions in the process of bolstering our own. I don’t want to do that. I want to be brave, and selfless, and smart, and kind, and honest. -Four

Tris: *rolls eyes* You know, most boys would enjoy being trapped in close quarters with a girl.
Four: Not claustrophobic people, Tris!

Tris: What are you doing?
Four: *laughs* Flirting with death.

“Yes,” I say. “Three of these flying birds.”
I touch my collarbone, marking the path of their flight—toward my heart. One for each member of the family I left behind.

Natalie Prior visits Tris in Dauntless and Tris figures out the faction her mother is originally from.

Natalie: Have a piece of cake for me, all right? The chocolate. It’s delicious.

Will finds out Christina is afraid of moths.

Tris: Oh, you know. Faceless… unidentifiable male. How were your moths?
Christina: *smacks Tris’ arm* You promised you would never tell!
Will: Moths. You’re afraid of moths?
Christina: “Not just a cloud of moths, like…a swarm of them. Everywhere. All those wings and legs and… *shudders and shakes head*
Will: *with mock seriousness* Terrifying. That’s my girl. Tough as cotton balls.
Christina: Oh, shut up.

(Me: What about the part where Tris finds out?!?!?!)

Christina: Anyway – *opens cabinet and shrieks as a moth flies out* Get it off! Get it off get it off get it off!
*moth flies away*
Tris: It’s gone! *laughs* You’re afraid of… moths?
Christina: They’re disgusting. Those papery wings and their stupid bug bodies… *shudders*

Tris’ and Four’s first kiss under the waterfall in the chasm

Four: Yes, that whopping two-year gap really is insurmountable, isn’t it?

So, those are just a few. Is there a scene that hasn’t been mentioned yet? What do you hope to see in the movie when it comes out in a week? I would love to hear your thoughts!
