I’m 95% sure everyone thinks I’ve dropped off and completely disappeared
which I did in August and never came back out of wherever I dropped off to which is a black hole of life. It’s been a long time since the last Novel Newcomers post from Xandra talking about the pressures of book hype.
That wrist brace life is difficult though.
Difficult enough I completely forgot about allowing comments on The Wicked King review. But I’m going to the doctor this Friday and we’re going to find out exactly how much damage there is. Hopefully nothing very damaging. But let’s dive into today before my wrist decides to kick me upside the nerve.
What is Novel Newcomers?
Novel Newcomers is created based from features spotlighting debut authors, only with book bloggers! It all began in 2016 with Nori from ReadWriteLove28, started in 2017 but the feature took a back burner later that year and remained so in 2018.
This year, however, Novel Newcomers is back! Clo from Book Dragons and I will be featuring book bloggers who started in 2017 OR 2018 all throughout the year. This week’s blogger
well overdue because life is Beth from Before We Go Blog.
Outside of blogging and reading, what other interests do you have?
I am an avid gardener. I try to get digging in the dirt as much as possible. Once upon a time I was a landscape architect as a profession and am a master gardener now. I love making things flourish, but I usually end up killing things a few times before I get the hang of it.
What is your most unusual accomplishment?
I once walked a mile backward. That is one of the more odd ones. I have a pretty unusual list of goals, and that was on it. I try to do just about everything once just to have tried it. Cross it off my list and move onwards. One of the more fun things I have done is pour a bottle of water from the pacific ocean into a bottle from the Atlantic ocean. Sadly, there was no explosion or anything. No magic, or big spell. It sits on my shelf with a label that reads, “water from two oceans.” I know that is going to come in useful one day.
What is your favorite food?
I love all kinds of food. I am a huge huge foodie. But I have a deep love for Indian food. Give me Naan and Chicken Tikka Masala any day. Closely followed by Japanese food. Sushi, sushi, sushi.
You’re going on vacation and have been asked to bring up to five guests with you. Which five bloggers or characters would you bring with you and why?
Harry Dresden, Mercy Thompson, October Daye, Jodie from Witty and Sarcastic Book Club because she and I would have a blast together, and Rachel from The Hallows. This just sounds like a fun party. Probably a party that would end up in an explosion, but still fun none the less.
Now that you’ve chosen five people to come with you, where would you like to vacation in and what’s one place you would love to see during your time there?
Oh, that’s hard. I burn easily, so not the beach. I am what some people refer to as “fish-belly white.” I suppose anywhere that has a bit of magic. Maybe somewhere from Harry Potter, sans the Dark Lord.
Every week you do #MusicMonday. What are some of your favorite tropes and what music reminds you of the trope?
- I like a good friendship turned into romance trope. – Lucky by Colbie Calliat ft. Jason Mraz
- The Chosen One – Chosen One by Valley of Wolves
- The Quest – The Distance by Cake
What are some of your favorite books since you started book blogging?
I have discovered so much since I started blogging. My reading world has opened up. I can tell you some huge standouts for me this year.
- Middlegame by Seanan Mcguire was fantastic.
- Break the Bodies, Haunt the Bones by Micah Dean Hicks was crazy, atmospheric, and scary.
- Ash Kickers [by Sean Grigsby] made me laugh my ass off.
- The Grey Bastards [by Johnathon French] is ridiculously good. I am looking forward to reviewing the sequel.
