Novel Newcomers

Getting into a hiatus is easy, but getting out?

Well, that’s the most difficult part. 😂 You’d think I’d learn that from my partial hiatus a few years ago, but nope, that didn’t happen. (Or maybe I’m just not ready to get out of semi-hiatus yet, I don’t know.) But all those posts I’m writing when inspiration strikes are going to keep adding up, not adding down.

This week’s blogger is Kerys from The Everlasting Library! Kerys’s blog is one of my favorites and I love reading her latest posts when they go live; she is an absolute gem and I’m excited to have her chat about everything books, pineapples (okay, lack of) and vacations.

What is Novel Newcomers?

Novel Newcomers is a feature based off features spotlighting debut authors, only with book bloggers! It all began in 2016 with Nori from ReadWriteLove28, started in 2017 but the feature took a back burner later that year and remained so in 2018.

This year, however, Novel Newcomers is back! Clo from Book Dragons and I will be featuring book bloggers who started in 2017 OR 2018 all throughout the year, so brace yourselves and let’s get started!

Outside of blogging and reading, what other interests do you have?

Well, I don’t really have that much of a life but I love hockey! It’s so fun and even though I’m not great at it when am I ever good at anything? I love being part of a team! I also really enjoy watching movies. Maths is also pretty cool but I don’t do it out of school.

What is your most unusual accomplishment?

I don’t really have that may accomplishments but blogging is definitely one! I also entered a computing competition with my friends. this is my inner swot right here We ended up doing really well and had a great time!

Other than pineapples and chocolate, what is your favorite food?

PASTA ALL THE WAY!! This is such a cliche answer but you can just have so many different types of pasta and they’re all so good! I love chocolate cake and chocolate brownies (I know they have chocolate but they’re too good not to mention!). Chips and fries are also delicious and I could genuinely LIVE on them.

What ice cream flavor would you associate with five of your recent or all-time favorite characters and why?

Oooh this is hard but it’s such an awesome question!

  • Adam (The Raven Boys) would be Butterscotch because it’s a pretty simple but awesome flavour and is always so sweet!
  • Blue (The Raven Boys) would be Salted Caramel because she’s super bold and not afraid to stand out or speak her mind!
  • Hermione (Harry Potter) would be Pistachio because she’s full of talents and is brave and wonderful!
  • Luna (Harry Potter) would be Raspberry Ripple because it just seems like the kind of thing she would love!
  • Nina (Six of Crows) would be Cookie Dough because you can NEVER have enough cookies or ice-cream and like her, it’s full of surprises!

For some, summer is time for a vacation! If fictional worlds existed, where would you like to vacation in and why?

There are so many places I would love to go but my mind has gone completely blank! This is not a unique answer but in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! It would be so fun to go around Diagon Alley and visit Hogsmeade! I might even learn some magic! I would love to drink Butterbeer and play Quidditch.

You finally got your letter to Hogwarts for the upcoming year! What classes would you be interested in taking if you got the chance to choose?

AAAHHHH THAT WOULD BE THE BEST THING IN THE WORLD!! I’m pretty sure my parents are actually hiding my letter because why haven’t I been invited yet? I would love to take Astronomy, Arithmancy, Apparition, Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Flying, Herbology, Potions, Transfiguration and Care of Magical Creatures! I got a bit excited then but I would actually work so hard if I could learn magic!

Happy blogoversary (blogiversary?)! What are you most proud of achieving during the year you’ve been blogging? Do you have any advice for new blogging souls?

I am definitely proud of everything I’ve done blogging! I never thought I’d stick around for long (especially with my commitment issues!) but here I am even if I am on hiatus! I’m proud of all the wonderful people I met through blogging and I love talking to you all whether that be on Discord or rambling on Twitter or fangirling in the comments!! I’m also proud of achieving 500 followers! It’s crazy that there’s so many of you out there who care or at least read about what I have to say!

To any new bloggers, I would say, don’t worry about the numbers! It doesn’t matter how many followers or likes comments you have as long as you’re making the content you love. And don’t feel guilty about caring about the numbers either if it pushes you to be even more awesome. Just don’t let it stress you out and remember that there’s always someone who’s there to listen to you! Also, take breaks when you need to because you and your health are important!

  1. YES FOR PASTA. last semester I basically lived off the cook to order pasta bar, because it was the only reliably delicious (and relatively healthy) option in the school dining hall!

I’d never heard of raspberry ripple before, but it absolutely sounds like a Luna flavor! and Nina is definitely cookie dough, 10/10 perfect choices.

congrats on 500 followers, Kerys! but more importantly, I totally feel you on sticking with blogging longer than expected – even if you’re on hiatus, you’re still around being your awesome self

  2. Happy blogoversary Kerys and welcome to this magical and slightly mad community. We have cookies. *lures innocents to the dark side* I love the ice cream flavors and characters pairing. I love ice cream. I also agree with you, there’s nothing wrong with looking at the numbers, even when you’ve been here for a while. We each go on this crazy adventure for one reason or another, and most of us stress over those numbers even if we won’t admit to it. Loved this interview, Soph! Happy reading!!
