It’s finally Winter Break and my energy can go elsewhere AKA other priorities like blogging and reading.
But holy monkeys, I’m so very behind on this year’s Novel Newcomers, mainly due to lack of blogging motivation. Lupe and Anelise seem to be in the same boat too… funny how co-bloggers are there to help out but we all slump together as well. 😢
Unfortunately, this also means after two years, Novel Newcomers will be taking a hiatus for 2018. 😭
I will be finishing this year’s feature though so I won’t be dropping off right in the middle and leave everyone else hanging.
That aside, this week’s Novel Newcomer is Shruti from This is Lit.
Outside of blogging and reading, what other interests do you have?
I watch a lot of TV shows. I need to commute a grand total of 4 hours daily to get to and from work and that’s when I read. I don’t read [on] the weekends, though. That’s prime Netflix watching time. I’m constantly on the lookout for new TV shows to watch, but this October, I’m more excited about all the recurring ones. Stranger Things! Riverdale! Fresh Off the Boat! Obviously, I really love my TV shows. 😀
What is your most unusual accomplishment?
In school, I learned English and this other Indian language (Hindi). But, my native language is Tamil, which I only knew how to speak and not read or write. However, I taught myself to read it when I was 6 or 7 by paying close attention to the new ticker on Tamil news channels. My family is still surprised that I was so easily able to teach myself the language.
What is your favorite food?
I can never pick! I would, however, say that anything that has cheese is my favorite. 🙂
What Hogwarts House are you, and would you ever want to go to Ilvermorny?
Slytherin! My cubicle at work is decorated with a lot of Slytherin merchandise, too. I’m THAT proud of my house.
I don’t think I’d mind going to Ilvermorny. I love America and a wizarding school in one of [my] favorite countries? Count me in!
We’re in the last stretch of the year! Quick, what are 5 books you hope to finish by the end of this year?
- The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
- Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult
- The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
- Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom
- A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
Interesting trivia: Number 5 is always added to my “what do you want to read before the end of <date>” lists. But I never read it. Let’s hope 2017 changes this!
What book genres do you hope to try one day but have never ventured into before?
LGBTQ. I haven’t read any books from this genre. I’m not avoiding the genre, I just haven’t read any books from it. Recommend a good book from the genre and I’ll get on it right away! 😀
The holidays are almost here! What are you looking forward to this season?
I have a niece now! She was born a couple of weeks back and I’ll be visiting her in the US this December. Can’t wait! 😀
