Weekly Wrap-Up: I’m Apparently 21 and Adulting?!?!?!

Posted September 16, 2018 by Sophia

I was very very tempted to make a party hat for my dragon because well… I’m kind of celebrating? But the usual sleeping dragon will do because I’m always tired and today is a day of tired/napping. I skipped out on a few Sunday Posts so I can catch up on comments. Just so you know, I haven’t caught up yet.

So I’m 21 today! Isn’t this exciting. Please don’t ask if I’m going to out and party because I’m officially a full-fledged adult because I’ll give you my answer right now: NOOO. All I ask is a nice nap and stress-free day (exactly why I requested off).

I still have the vertical driver’s license for another year though.

This Week’s Posts

Book Haul

I’ve accumulated some books for review!

  • Death by the River by Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor – I completely forgot I signed up for the blog tour.

And I brought some books.

  • This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner – I read this as an ARC and saw it on sale, so I got a copy for myself!
  • Reflections by Elizabeth Lim – I love Mulan, so when I hear there was a retelling, I was in.
  • I forgot the titles of the other books I got, but I was very much not behaving.
    • Hey, hey, it’s my birthday week and they say to treat yourself so the proper bookworm way to do this is to get books.

Reading Life

I started reading Reflections and it is amazinggg. I’m almost done with it as well, which makes me super happy. I’m also reading Perfect Harmony by Emily Albright, which I’m reading for the blog tour coming soon. It’s not as exciting as the Mulan retelling, but it’s not horrible in terms of reading luck.

Real Life/Blogging

I started my third year of college a few weeks ago, so goodbye to some of my freedom and hello to a wrist support because I won’t be able to do anything long otherwise. (This is exactly why I was super unproductive in July.) And with that, I’m also interning at 60 Seconds Online Magazine, where I’m writing book reviews and spreading more of my bookish joys. Excuse me while all of my reviews get shifted over because I’m a slow reader and need material to meet deadlines.

The blog will be okay, right?! It will be because BLOGOWEEN IS COMING, which means I get to bring some of the spookiest posts for your souls! Come join me, Clo, Sam, Anthony, Kaleena, Camilla, Lauren, Jamsu and Anna as we host this very ominous exciting event where you sell your soul to us. Clo already sold her soul to me but she’s not really complaining.

We’d love for you to join us! I have low-key realized my blogoversary is coming up right after the event so lots of planning for my poor soul. Oh dear.

Let’s talk, bookwyrms! Are you a September baby? Are you joining us for Blogoween? Have you read any of the books I got?

Sophia started blogging in February 2012 for the hell of it and is surprisingly still around. She has a GIF for nearly everything, probably listens to too much K-Pop and is generally in an existential crisis of sorts (she's trying her best). In 2020, she graduated with a Bachelor's in Communications and minor in Women's Studies. More of her bookish reviews and K-pop Roundups can be found at The Arts STL.

  1. Happy birthday! Yay *showers confetti*. Hope it’s awesome and full of naps. πŸ™‚

Blogoween looks awesome, I’ll definitely be checking that out! And congrats on the interning- that sounds fun. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks, Greg! I didn’t get to nap, but I did get to rest for the day, which was nice. πŸ˜€ I hope you’ll get to join us for Blogoween! If you haven’t signed up, I highly recommend you to do so. πŸ˜‰

  2. I love your Blogoween header – I wonder if I could use it for my post in case I sell my soul to you guys?

Also, happy birthday and I am a big fan of doing-nothing-birthdays – actually I take a day off from work when it’s my birthday because I don’t even want to do that! And good luck in the new school year!

    Have a great reading week!

  3. I was gonna wish you happy birthday even before I came to this post! Facebook is sharing all your secrets, haha πŸ˜€ happy birthday!!! Please don’t get too drunk LOL πŸ˜€ (I hear that’s a thing in America.) (But then again, I’m sure it’s not really a thing you’d enjoy xD)

What is a vertical driver’s licence xD

Anyway. Have a wonderful birthday weekend!!!

    • Hahaha, thanks, Evelina! Facebook reveals ALL the secrets… well, the ones I’m willing to share. πŸ˜‰

Also I don’t plan on getting drunk or drinking at all in my life aside from maybe a sip if I have to make myself look like I’m socializing one day.

A vertical license is nothing really special to be honest. I think the horizontal one in my state is an intermediate driver’s license, so there are certain rights and restrictions, but I don’t remember exactly what they are if any.

  4. Happy birthday! *gives a piece of cheesecake* I hope you’re having the best day even if most of the dy is spend sleeping πŸ˜€

    I can’t wait until it’s Blogoween.

  5. Ahhh happy, happy birthday, Sophia!! Oh my goodness, I can’t believe you have been blogging since 2012?? Ahhh. I hope you have the most wonderful day! <3

    • Thanks, Lily! I can’t believe that I’ve lasted the past 6 years, either, haha. (Did I really start at 2012?!?!?! That is something I constantly like to double check on.)

  6. Happy Birthday and welcome to the wonderful world of adulting..lol. In our state your driver’s license automatically expires on your 21st birthday so you have to get a horizontal one. Enjoy your week and welcome back!

    • Thanks, Kimberly! Theoretically if I started driving at 16 I think it SHOULD expire on my 21st? I started driving late, though. Fortunately it doesn’t expire until next year, but it does have a note in red that says I don’t turn 21 until this year.

    • 18 is the official legal age in the US as well – we’re not allowed to drink until 21, though, which I think is 18 in the UK?

Thanks for signing up for Blogoween! Can’t wait to see your posts! πŸ˜‰

  7. Happy Birthday!!! I definitely understand just wanting a day to yourself to celebrate instead of throwing a whole party.

I have read These Broken Stars, but I haven’t read any of the other books in the series yet. Is it worth a read?

I am so glad that you figured out the whole internship thing. Are you liking it so far? I took a peek at the website and I love the idea of micro content! Plus reviewing books is right up your alley.

  8. shooting

Happy Birthday!! I don’t drink – never have – so 21 wasn’t a huge deal for me in that regard. I did have a fun party at my friend’s house though where pretty much everyone ELSE drank and I got sparkling cider. lol Oh, I’m so glad you’re loving Reflections because I ADORE Mulan as well.

  9. Ahhhh happy birthday!!!! And yay to your third year of college! I’m not finding Perfect Harmony that interesting either :(( I would LOVE to participate in Blogoween but unfortunately I’ll have to pass because I don’t want to commit to something that’ll take a lot of my time like that. But Halloween is just around the corner!! I’m so psyched!!

    • Thanks, Savannah! I believe there are three levels – 13 posts, so you’re definitely NOT required to do all of them, haha. I do hope Perfect Harmony picks up for you soon, though (honestly I still didn’t enjoy it and read the rest for Declan).

  10. AHHHH HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! I hope you had a fabulous day filled with relaxing time, naps and great books <3 <3
Reflections sounds great, I'll have to look it up, I'm curious that it's a Mulan retelling, I need more of these in my life for sure! πŸ˜€
    I hope you'll have a lovely week!! <3 <3

  11. Happy (belated, even though I told you on Discord already! XD) birthday!!! I didn’t drink much on my 21st birthday either, so you’re not alone. I rarely drink to begin with, so people shouldn’t pressure you or anyone else if you don’t want to. Blogoween sounds fun, but I don’t celebrate Halloween, so I’ll definitely sit this one out until Blogmas lol.

  12. Happy Belated Birthday, I hope you had a wonderful day filled with naps and relaxing in-between. I do enjoy re-tellings, I’ll have to add Reflections to my list. Have a great week ahead.

  13. Whoo happy late birthday, dear ! I hope you enjoyed your day off, my birthday is so close to christmas that – I usually get it off but it depends on what day it falls on and stuff.. at my current job around christmas & new year she let us get whichever shift we’d want and when we’d like off (as we are open all 7days)

Oooh a retelling of Mulan ?! I’d need to give it a check ..
Ah, Happy 3rd year; how has college been so far ? ahaha love the comment on blogoween xD yeah, you should be alright – just a matter of setting up so you cam juggle the too I think πŸ™‚

  14. I WISH it was a week, haha. That would definitely be nice if I could sit back for a week and do nothing basically – I’m sure I’ll accomplish a lot during that time as well (maybe my wrist will be completely fine if I rest for an entire week straight???).
