Weekly Wrap-Up: Whoa, It’s JULY?!

Posted July 1, 2018 by Sophia and Lupe

Hold up, is it really July?

*looks at calendar*

Gosh darn it, it really is July. (At least I didn’t notice this three weeks into July.)

This Week’s Posts

Book Haul

  • Echoes by Alice Reeds – islands are involved and also that cover… okay, I forgot why, but I do know it’s a survival story. We’ll see how that goes.
  • Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff – If only to see how long it’ll take for me to finish the audio version of this one…

  • Generation Dead (#1), Kiss of Life (#2), and Passing Strange (#3) by Daniel Waters – the covers are what drew me into buying them in the first place. I wonder when I will have the time to read them?

Reading Life

I’m still reading Strange the Dreamer, which numerous people are telling me is slow to start but gets good later so… I’ll trek through the book still. Then again, I just started it, but I keep putting it down. Hullmetal Girls by Emily Skrutskie is my next victim.

I finally finished Gemina though. 😅

I’m still reading Only Dead on the Inside: A Parent’s Guide to Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse by James Breakwell. Like I’ve said… I am reading this SLOWLY.

Real Life

Nothing as exciting as going to a bookish event like last week, but I spent most of my time off from work stocking up on Instagram photos for the school year and catching up on comments. I’m almost all caught up! I’m halfway through June currently. (And I intend to stay on track after, but hahaha good luck, Sophia.)

Like Sophia, nothing happened other than I got a 91% on my first Calculus exam! WOOT! WOOT! I do have another Calculus exam this upcoming Tuesday. YIKES. I know. I’m so close to the end of the eight weeks. I can ALREADY FEEL IT!

Let’s talk, bookwyrms! How was your week? Any 4th of July plans, US peeps? Are you behind comments as well?

Sophia started blogging in February 2012 for the hell of it and is surprisingly still around. She has a GIF for nearly everything, probably listens to too much K-Pop and is generally in an existential crisis of sorts (she's trying her best). In 2020, she graduated with a Bachelor's in Communications and minor in Women's Studies. More of her bookish reviews and K-pop Roundups can be found at The Arts STL.

Co-blogger at Bookwyrming Thoughts

Lupe is a 23-year-old Mexican-American who enjoys reading and watching movies when she gets the chance to relax. Her all-time favorite series consists of Bloodlines and Vampire Academy (among others), and her favorite author is Richelle Mead.

  1. “Gosh darn it, it really is July. (At least I didn’t notice this three weeks into July.)” I have never related to a single sentence more in my life. lmao

And I’m with you, Lupe. The eight weeks are almost over (until the fall semester starts up but shhhhhhh let’s not think about that right now).

Have a good week, guys! πŸ™‚

  2. I know right? Where did July come from? I am looking forward to Echoes big time- based solely on that cover. I mean I read the synopsis, but don’t even remember… but I gotta have it for the cover. And Hullmetal Girls is sounding pretty good too.

    Have a super week!

Strange the Dreamer was one of my favourite reads this year, Sophia, so I hope it picks up for you and you enjoy it as much as I did.

Well done on such a good result on your calculus exam, Lupe!

    • Unfortunately, I think I’ve abandoned it – it’s been returned to the library automatically, but I haven’t really had the desire to pick it back up again. πŸ™

  4. Lupe – Congratulations on your calc success. That is awesome!
Sophia – I hope you are pleased with Obsidio. I thought it was a satisfying conclusion to one of my favorite series.

  5. Yeah, I’m in denial about it being July too…I hope Strange the Dreamer picks up! I bought a paperback copy last week and I’d kind of like to finish in time to decide if I want to pre-order the pretty UK version of the sequel. And congrats on your test score Lupe! Calculus was one of my favorite subjects in high school, even if it was really hard πŸ™‚

  6. I hope you’ll enjoy Obsidio – I haven’t had the courage to get it just yet, I’m very nervous about what might happen in that book haha. I hope you’ll manage to get through Strange The Dreamer and will love it, I only heard amazing things about this book so far πŸ™‚
Happy reading and have a wonderful July! πŸ˜€

  7. Strange the Dreamer takes a good quarter of the narrative to immerse yourself but it’s well worth sticking with, once the two narratives start merging, it really picks up. Great job on your exam Lupe, that’s amazing! I hope you both have a wonderful week of reading and taking time out to rest and relax β™₯β™₯β™₯

    • Don’t feel bad about it – at least you’re not the only one out there who’s behind on all the comments (there isn’t enough time in the day for this). I’m sure you’ll catch up one day! <3

  8. Lupe, congrats on the 91% in calculus! How are you liking Only Dead on the Inside?

Sophie, ready to pick up Obsidio too. Excited to see what happens in the last book. Had problems with my comments and found a lot in spam! It’s been a pain to climb out that hole!

Have a great July girls! I’m roasting here in Texas! β™₯️β™₯️

    • Dani, hope the weather will be nicer to you soon! Also I get your pain on the comments – trying to get all the legit comments out of the spam… I hope you managed to catch them all!

  9. I like the valuable information you provide in your articles.
I’ll bookmark your blog and check again here frequently.
I am quite certain I will learn plenty of new stuff right here!
Best of luck for the next!
