Once upon a time, a somewhat young and naive Sophia had a strange obsession with zombie apocalypses, writing all kinds of posts here, there, and everywhere.
So you see, bookwyrms, I ran out of ideas and had to go outside the box because who wants to read the same post over again? (Do you want to talk about why you should resurrect your favorite book characters again?)
But who am I to talk? It’s important to break the rules here and there, so I am here to break some rules. Well, I’m here to bend them to my needs and purposes of taking over the world and Kaleena from Reader Voracious cannot stop me!
I could do a 2.0 but ha. ha. ha. Bending rules is more fun. Wouldn’t you all agree? And I’m a lot better than zombies because I wouldn’t eat your brains.
So let’s break the rules and talk a little about why you need a fictional character in the zombie apocalypse today!
Or for any sort of apocalypse, but for the purposes of this post,Β let’s just focus on zombies. Fictional characters are there for more than the purpose of winning your heart over on the page. They’re useful for the good, the bad and the ugly as well.
(One has to wonder why they even want to hang out with us in the first place.)
They can do all the butt kicking for you.
Okay, okay, you should make an effort to help them out if you can – it’s only decent courtesy. Besides, if you help them out, maybe you’ll impress them with your skills and they’ll fall for you off the page.
You can use them as sacrifices as you run away to safety.
Listen, bookwyrms, don’t do this unless you hate the poor character a lot. But this is an option if you feel inclined to be evil as well. There aren’t any rules in the zombie apocalypse that we’re aware of.
They can keep you company when you can’t trust anyone else.
“Hold on, Soph, you can’t trust anyone here. Why should we trust a fictional character?” you ask.
True. But they’re a lot more reliable since you know them inside and out as you researched who they were before they embarked on this apocalyptic journey with you. And it’s better not to be alone in this scenario – an extra pair of eyes goes a long way. So does an extra pair of anything if you ask me.
They have more experience than you.
If there’s any reason you need a fictional character during the zombie apocalypse, it’s their impressive experience in the art of survival and butt kicking.
And well, if anyone can survive being zombie bait, it’s them, not you probably. Certainly not me. It’s not likely they’ll survive considering how zombies eat brains and they’ll turn into zombies themselves, but who knows? They might walk out with their brains intact.
Let’s talk, bookwyrms! Why do you need a fictional character in the zombie apocalypse? Who would you want with you? Would you rather venture alone?
Sophia started blogging in February 2012 for the hell of it and is surprisingly still around. She has a GIF for nearly everything, probably listens to too much K-Pop and is generally in an existential crisis of sorts (she's trying her best). More of her bookish reviews and K-Pop Roundups can be found at The Arts STL.

YIKES! Zombies are definitely not my friends, (lol) so I hate to think of them showing up any time soon, but I definitely agree with you that I would need someone strong to protect me,and many of my heroes from books would definitely work perfectly! What a cool topic! Hugs…RO

They’re not my friends either, haha. The more heroes to protect us, the better, right?

HAHAHAHAAH! I told you it was okay to tweak the prompt you weirdo! Can you claim to be a rebel when you were given permission? π
I loved your twist to the prompt and your answers are great. Thanks for participating, my fave little rebel, you!
Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction says
Yeah, I think the right fictional character would be a lifesaver for sure!! π

I’d want a lot of them. To help me fight. To take the hits. LOL And to keep me company so I’m not talikng to myself. Sort of.

All very good reasons to have a fictional character (or more!) during a zombie apocalypse!

This is something I’ve never thought about before, but I would probably choose someone from a zombie apocalypse book that was still alive at the end. Clearly they knew what they were doing!

Good one, Lindsi! I completely agree they would know what they’re doing if they’ve survived one zombie apocalypse already – they’re bound to survive a second one.

I’m picking Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead. He hasn’t survived over nine seasons for nothing. I love zombie apocalypse books, The Rot and Ruin series is among my favourites and I had such a crush on the main character’s brother. Nothing compares to The Walking Dead though, if Caryl doesn’t happen this season I think I’ll riot.
Sim @ Flipping Through the Pages says
Haha, nice spin on the topic π I think it would be awesome to have a fictional character during such an apocalypse, if not for any other reason, then surely for keeping me company among those terrible zombies π

OOF to your rebelness!

I will credit all of my survival skills to fiction kickass characters. Mira Grant, Rhiannon Frater and others have given me the tools to make it past first day when the zombies come!
